description

a site-specific devised piece that asked the question:

How can subcultures who are attempting to isolate themselves survive in a society saturated by mainstream media?

method

In the spring of 2015 the resident of a local show house that is the nucleus of my college's DIY community offered me his living space as a venue for a theatrical performance. I gratefully accepted and began planning. Given the location, I decided the anchor of the piece should be related to subcultures. During the summer of 2015 I began researching, planning, and training for the piece. I had the good fortune of interning with the Portland Experimental Theatre Ensemble that summer and participated in thier two week Suzuki and Viewpoints training intensive. In the fall of 2015 I formed an ensemble, shared my research with them, trained them in Viewpoints and Suzuki the best that I could with my deficient experience, and shaped the content that they produced into an hour long site-specific movement piece that was performed in December of 2015.
